Starting on May 1, 2023, Malte Wienker will now head the global Public Affairs activities and team at Flix, the leader in sustainable and affordable mobility.

The 41-year-old began his career as a lawyer at the international law firm, Hogan Lovells, in 2010. In 2013, he moved to the media company Axel Springer, where he held various management positions. In this role, he notably worked in Public Affairs where he was responsible for liaising with various institutions and organizations, as well as Chief of Staff, where he dealt with numerous regulatory issues, in particular competition law and digital policy. In his latest position as head of the communications and sustainability departments, he handled regulatory requirements for climate-relevant business. Malte’s professional career has been augmented by a wealth of legal expertise, which he has acquired as a lawyer in numerous M&A projects, among others.

Born in Hanover, Malte now lives in Berlin with his wife and two sons.

As the new Director of Public Affairs, he will lead Flix’s efforts in transforming the European and global transport sector at a critical moment. He will oversee the company’s government affairs and advocacy work in Europe and beyond. He will work closely with Andrea Koepfer, Senior Director Communications & Sustainability who led - additionally to her communications and ESG tasks - public affairs for the last two years. Together, they will ensure that the Flix position and capabilities towards sustainable mobility are taken into consideration by the general public and governments across the globe.

André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of Flix, to whom Malte Wienker will report says: “The transport sector has undergone several major changes in the past years and continues to evolve, allowing for innovative companies to offer new services in a more convenient, affordable and sustainable way, hence responding to passengers’ needs. Still, there is room to improve fair and open market conditions in many European and global markets. With his global team, Malte will ensure that thanks to a level playing field in the transport sector, collective transport will become the

obvious solution for passengers who will benefit and enjoy a broader range of offers at a more affordable price.”

Malte Wienker: “I am delighted to take on this new role at a key moment in the European and global transport sector. Mobility is an essential part of our lives, and Flix has shown how this can be done in an innovative way, bringing together sustainability and affordability with its FlixBus and FlixTrain services.”
