Munich / Santiago, October 2nd, 2023 - Flix, a global travel-tech leader providing sustainable and affordable travel options, announces its long-awaited arrival in Chile. The company aims to revitalize the local travel market with digitization, highly competitive prices and the highest safety standards. The first green buses will depart from Santiago on October 5th, 2023.

We are thrilled to officially welcome Chile as Flix’s 42nd country worldwide, and the second country in South America, following Brazilsaid André Schwämmlein, CEO of Flix Our mission is to provide sustainable and affordable travel options for everyone, and we see significant demand for such services in Chile. We are dedicated to providing consistent quality, safety standards and a seamless customer experience in every region where we operate, establishing a competitive market offering and more reliable choices for customers.

Flix’s scalable business model has already delivered success across 41 countries on four continents, driving value creation with technology, both for bus partners and travellers.

Revitalizing the travel market in Chile

The first lines in Chile will connect Santiago with Viña del Mar, San Antonio and Coquimbo. During the next few months, Flix plans to further expand to the centre and south of the country.

The intercity travel industry in Chile has suffered a sharp reduction in demand in recent years as a result of the pandemic shutdown with price increases for collective transport leading to the growth of private car owners, among other factors. Flix seeks to reverse this scenario and revitalize the market with its unique offer.

Flix continues its profitable growth journey

The launch of operations in the highly attractive Chilean market is a part of Flix’s profitable growth strategy. In September, Flix shared its half-year figures for the first six months of 2023, announcing it to be the most successful first half year in the company’s history. From January until the end of June 2023, more than 36 million passengers worldwide travelled with FlixBus, FlixTrain, Greyhound, and Kamil Koç (53% increase versus the same period in 2022). The total revenue of the Flix Group amounted to EUR 860 million (54% increase), with an adjusted EBITDA result of EUR 26 million and a corresponding margin of 3%.
